How to Generate an MTR Report

If the support team asks you to generate an MTR report, this guide explains how to obtain one. MTR (My Trace Route) records the path network packets take from your computer to the server, which helps diagnose routing or packet-loss issues.

Install and run WinMTR

MTR is available on most platforms. This guide covers Windows, where the tool is called WinMTR.

  1. Download WinMTR from sourceforge.net/projects/winmtr.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file to your local computer.
  3. Open the WinMTR_x64 folder you unpacked.
  4. Double-click WinMTR.exe to open the program.
  5. Type your server's IP address into the Host field and click Start.
  6. Wait until the Sent column reaches at least 50 intervals.
  7. Click Stop, then click Copy to clipboard.
  8. Paste the report into your support ticket.
