How to Set Up a Procedurally Generated Map on ARK

Published 8 June 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

ARK: Survival Evolved can generate a unique procedurally generated map (a PGARK) instead of using a fixed map. You select the procedurally generated map, then shape its terrain with generation values like the map seed, biome sizes, and foliage density. For standard official and Workshop maps instead, see loading a map or DLC.

Before you start: A procedurally generated map is defined by its generation settings, especially the map seed. Changing those settings generates a different world, so settle on them before players build.

Set up a generated map

  1. Load the procedurally generated map the same way you load any map.
  2. Set the generation values to shape the world. The most useful ones:
    SettingWhat it does
MapSeedThe seed for the noise and random functions. The same seed reproduces the same map.
LandscapeRadiusThe radius of the land. Beyond it is water.
    MountainHeightA multiplier for mountain height.
GrassDensityFoliage density in the grasslands biome.
JungleBiomeStartThe height at which the jungle biome begins.
ErosionIterationsHow many erosion droplets are simulated, which smooths terrain.
  3. Save and restart the server to generate the map.

Tip: Note your MapSeed somewhere safe. It is the one value you need to recreate the exact same map later. Set rates and rules the same as any map, for example the difficulty level.
