Without Host Havoc
The manual way: self-hosting
Vintage Story's dedicated server is a .NET application from Anego Studios. It is not on Steam, so you download the server package from your Vintage Story account, and it needs a Windows or Linux box that stays on 24/7. It is light on resources, so a couple of CPU cores and a few GB of RAM cover most worlds. No GPU needed.
- Download the server. Grab the server-only archive from your Vintage Story account (or use the bundled
VintagestoryServeron Windows) and extract it. - Launch it once to generate the config, then run it from your data folder:
VintagestoryServer --dataPath /srv/vintagestory/data - Edit
serverconfig.json. It is created on first launch in yourVintagestoryDatafolder. SetServerName,Port(default42420),MaxClients,Password, and the world settings. - Forward port
42420(TCP and UDP) on your router and firewall, or try/serverconfig upnp 1in the console. - Keep it running as a service or in tmux/screen, and add ModDB mods to the
Modsfolder by hand.
After that it is on you: updating on every release, scheduling world backups, restarting after crashes, and absorbing DDoS yourself.
