How to Download a Copy of Your World

Published June 9, 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

Downloading a copy of your Minecraft server world lets you keep a local backup before you reset the world, switch maps, or make major changes.

Before you start: Stop the server before downloading. Active writes during the transfer can result in a corrupted or incomplete world copy.

Download the world folders

  1. Log into the Minecraft panel and click Stop to stop your server.
  2. Click Files on the left side, then click FTP File Access.
  3. Connect using your FTP client.
  4. Locate the world folders in the root directory. The main world folder is named world by default. The Nether and End dimensions are stored in world_nether and world_the_end.
  5. Drag the folder(s) to a location on your computer to download them.

Note: If you changed the world name in the control panel, the folder name will match the custom name you set, not world.

Verify the download

Once the transfer is complete, open the downloaded folder on your computer and confirm the files are present. A typical world folder contains level.dat, a region subfolder, and other data directories.

To restore this world later, follow the upload world guide.
