Connect to Your Minecraft Server via FTP

Published June 9, 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

An FTP client gives you full access to your server's file system from your own computer. It is the recommended way to upload large modpacks, worlds, and plugins. This guide uses FileZilla, a free open-source client available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Before you start: Download FileZilla Client and install it before following these steps.

Find your FTP credentials

  1. Log in to your Minecraft panel.
  2. On the left-hand sidebar, click Files, then FTP File Access.
  3. Note down your FTP Address (host), Port, and FTP Username.
    • The username typically appears as youraccount.1234.

Connect in FileZilla

  1. Open FileZilla.
  2. Enter the details in the Quickconnect bar at the top:
    • Host: paste the FTP Address.
    • Username: paste your FTP Username.
    • Password: use the same password you use to log in to the Minecraft panel.
    • Port: 21 (unless your panel shows a different port).
  3. Click Quickconnect.
  4. If prompted about an unknown certificate, check Always trust this certificate and click OK.

Transfer files

Once connected, your local files appear on the left panel and your server files on the right. Drag and drop files between the two panels to upload or download them.

Tip: Once inside your server directory you can navigate to folders like /mods, /plugins, or /world to manage specific content. See our guide on installing Forge if you need to upload a Forge modpack.
