How to Reset or Wipe Your 7 Days to Die Server World
Resetting your 7 Days to Die server world starts the map fresh: all builds, dropped items, player positions, and world modifications are removed. You can choose a quick method that keeps the old save on disk, or a full deletion. Player profiles (skills, level, inventory) are stored separately and can be preserved either way. Before wiping, make sure you have Random World Generation configured if you want a new procedurally generated map after the reset.
Warning: This is destructive. All world data will be lost. Download any backups you want to keep before proceeding.
Before you start: Stop your server completely before making any file changes.
Method A: Quick reset by renaming the save
This is the fastest approach. The old save stays on disk and can be restored later.
- Log into the Game Control Panel and stop your server.
- Click Configuration Files and open
serverconfigfull.xmlin the Config Editor. - Change the Game Name value to a new name (for example, change
MyServertoMyServer2). - Click Save and start the service. The server generates a fresh world using the existing Game World and World Generation Seed settings.
Tip: To restore the old world later, change Game Name back to the original value and restart.
Method B: Full deletion
This permanently removes the save folder from disk.
- Log into the Game Control Panel and stop your server.
- Click File Manager and navigate to
userdata/Saves/<Game World>/<Game Name>/. - Delete the entire
<Game Name>folder. This wipes the world and all player profile files stored in that save. - Start the service. A new save is generated with the same name.
Preserving player profiles during a full wipe
Before deleting the save folder in step 3 above, download the Player/ subfolder from within <Game Name>/ using File Manager. After the world regenerates, re-upload the Player/ folder into the new save directory. Players will keep their skill points, levels, and inventories but start in a fresh world.
Generating a different map layout
For RWG worlds, change the World Generation Seed in serverconfigfull.xml before restarting. A new seed produces a completely different map rather than regenerating the same layout.
