How to Set a Password on Your Sons of the Forest Server

Adding a password to your server prevents unauthorized players from joining. The password is set in dedicatedserver.cfg and takes effect after a restart.

You may also want to add admins so trusted players can manage the server without needing the full password.

Steps

  1. Log in to the Game Control Panel and navigate to your server.
  2. Stop your server if it is running.
  3. Click Configuration Files, then open dedicatedserver.cfg using the Text Editor or Config Editor.

  4. Locate the Password field and enter your desired password.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Start your server. Players will now be prompted to enter the password when joining.

Troubleshooting

  • Password not working: Ensure the server was fully stopped before saving. If the server was running when you saved, restart it so the new value loads.
  • Remove the password: Leave the Password field empty and save, then restart.
