How to Add Admins on Your Sons of the Forest Server

Admins on your Sons of the Forest server are defined by their Steam64 ID in ownerswhitelist.txt. You can add multiple admins by including one Steam64 ID per line.

If you are unsure of your Steam64 ID, use a lookup tool such as steamid.io to find it.

You may also want to set a server password to restrict general access while keeping admin slots open.

Steps

  1. Log in to the Game Control Panel and navigate to your server.
  2. Stop your server if it is running.
  3. Click Configuration Files, then open ownerswhitelist.txt using the Text Editor or Config Editor.

  4. Click New Admin and enter the Steam64 ID of the player you want to grant admin access to.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Start your server. The listed players will have admin permissions in-game.

Troubleshooting

  • Admin not working in-game: Confirm the Steam64 ID is correct (17 digits, numeric). A wrong ID format will silently fail.
  • Changes not taking effect: Ensure the server was stopped before editing the file, then restart it after saving.
