How to Reinstall Your Factorio Server

Published 9 June 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

Reinstalling your Factorio server deletes all server files and downloads a fresh copy of the game server, restoring it to the same default state it was in when first provisioned.

Before you start: All server files will be deleted, except backups. Download any saves, mods, or configuration files you want to keep before proceeding. You can use FTP to retrieve them.

Reinstall the server

  1. Log in to the Game Control Panel and navigate to your server.
  2. Stop your server.
  3. Click the More button.
The More button in the Game Control Panel server view
  4. Click Reinstall.
The Reinstall option shown after clicking More
  5. Click the Reinstall confirmation button. It is recommended to keep the Default values option selected.

The process will delete all files in your server directory, download a fresh copy of the Factorio server files, and install a default configuration. This may take several minutes depending on the size of the game files. Wait for it to complete before starting the server.

After reinstalling

Once the reinstall finishes, you have a clean Factorio server. If you want to restore a previous save, follow the import save file guide. To re-add mods, follow the install mods guide.

Troubleshooting

  • Reinstall button not available: Ensure the server is fully stopped before attempting to reinstall.
  • Process takes a long time: This is normal for larger game files. Do not navigate away from the panel or interrupt the process.
  • Server fails to start after reinstall: Submit a support ticket if the server does not start within a few minutes of the reinstall completing.
