How to Add Mods to Your Factorio Server

Factorio mods are distributed as .zip files through the official mod portal at mods.factorio.com. Installing them on your server requires uploading the file to the mods/ folder via FTP.

Before starting, make sure you have FTP access set up. See Connect an FTP Client for instructions.

Install a mod

  1. Browse to mods.factorio.com and find the mod you want.
  2. Download the mod's .zip file to your PC.
  3. Connect to your server via FTP and navigate to the mods/ folder.
  4. Upload the .zip file to the mods/ folder. Do not extract it.
  5. Restart your server for the mod to load.

Troubleshooting

  • Mod not loading after restart: Confirm the .zip file is in the mods/ folder and has not been accidentally extracted. The file must remain as a .zip.
  • Version mismatch error: Each mod targets a specific Factorio version. Check the mod's page on mods.factorio.com to confirm it supports your server's version.
  • Players cannot join after adding a mod: All players must have the same mods installed locally as the server. Share the mod list with your players so they can install the same versions.
