About VEIN: Co-op zombie survival in a rural open world
VEIN is a survival sandbox from Ramjet Studios, in Steam Early Access since October 2025. After a near-future collapse, you scavenge abandoned buildings, hunt, farm, and cook, keep cars and trucks fueled and repaired, and fortify a base against zombies that track you by sight, sound, and smell. Nearly every object in the world can be used, and the power grid and water system are fully simulated. Your base, vehicles, and character progress live on the server, so a dedicated server keeps the world running for your group whether or not the original host is online.
Co-op or PvP, set in Game.ini and Engine.ini
Server name, password, player count, and admins (by Steam64 ID) are set in Game.ini. Gameplay rules live in Engine.ini: turn PvP on or off, and adjust zombie health and damage, loot scarcity, hordes, base decay, and day length. Plans run from 20 to 32 slots.
Built for an Early Access game
VEIN is still in active development, with regular updates. Host Havoc servers run the latest build and include automated backups, DDoS protection, and 24/7 expert support. VEIN has no official mod support or Steam Workshop yet.
How to Set Up a VEIN Dedicated Server
With Host Havoc
The easy way: with Host Havoc
- Pick a plan from 20 to 32 slots and your closest region.
- Your server goes live in minutes on the latest VEIN build.
- Set the server name, password, and player count from the control panel.
Every plan includes automated world backups (vital while VEIN is in Early Access and a save break can wipe progress), DDoS protection, and 24/7 support.
Without Host Havoc
The manual way: self-hosting
The VEIN dedicated server is a headless Unreal Engine 5 tool that runs without a GPU. It is mainly CPU-bound, so plan for roughly 2 to 4 cores and 8 to 16 GB of RAM on a box that stays online 24/7.
- Install SteamCMD, then download the dedicated server with its App ID:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2131400 validate +quit
- Launch the server once so it generates its files, then edit Game.ini in Vein/Saved/Config (LinuxServer or WindowsServer). Set ServerName, Password, bPublic, and MaxPlayers.
- Forward the ports the server uses: 7777/UDP for game traffic and 27015/UDP for the Steam query so the server shows in the browser.
- Launch and keep it running: a service on Windows, or screen or tmux on Linux so it survives logout.
After that it is on you: patching the server on every Early Access update, backing up the Vein/Saved world folder, restarting after crashes, and absorbing DDoS attacks.
