About Project Zomboid: How long will you survive?

Project Zomboid drops you into Knox Country in the days after a zombie outbreak. Loot houses, fortify a base, manage hunger, fatigue, infections, and the slow grind of weather. The full sandbox simulation runs on your server around the clock, so your world keeps living when you're offline. Multiplayer is where the game opens up. Build crews, run trader towns, raid rival groups, and find out how much social weight your base can carry before someone leaves the door unlocked.

Project Zomboid Server Features

Our Project Zomboid hosting runs on Build 42 with one-click installs for Steam Workshop mods directly from the control panel. Popular modpacks like Hydrocraft, ORGM, Authentic Z, More Traits, and Brita's Weapon Pack install in seconds. Edit the full sandbox configuration in browser: zombie population, loot rarity, sprint speeds, weather, sleep behavior, electricity shutoff, and dozens of other dials. Custom maps including Bedford Falls, Eerie Country, and Raven Creek deploy through the same one-click flow.

Why Host Havoc for Project Zomboid

Servers run on enterprise NVMe SSDs with DDoS protection included on every plan. Instant setup gets your server live in under a minute. Scheduled restarts, automated backups, and full FTP access are built into the control panel. Migrating an existing save? Upload your existing Saves directory via FTP and your characters, builds, and loot stay intact. Backed by a 4.7/5 Trustpilot rating and a 72-hour money-back guarantee.

How to Set Up a Project Zomboid Dedicated Server

With Host Havoc

The easy way: with Host Havoc

  1. Pick a plan and region. 8 to 32 slots, closest to your group.
  2. Deploy in one click. Live on the current build within minutes, memory already sized for your slots.
  3. Manage from the panel. Server settings, sandbox rules, Workshop mods, and admin access, no editing .ini files by hand.

Automated backups, DDoS protection, and 24/7 support included.

Rent Game Server

Without Host Havoc

The manual way: self-hosting

Project Zomboid's dedicated server is Java-based and runs on a Windows or Linux box that stays on 24/7. It is memory-hungry, so give it plenty of RAM headroom (the default start script asks for 16 GB; size it to your player count), plus a few GB of storage. No GPU needed.

  1. Install the server with SteamCMD using the anonymous login and Steam App ID 380870:
    steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 380870 validate +quit

  2. Set the memory. Edit StartServer64 and change the -Xms/-Xmx values to your RAM, or the server fails to start. Run it once to generate the configs and set your admin password.
  3. Edit the config files. servertest.ini and servertest_SandboxVars.lua in your Zomboid/Server folder hold max players, password, sandbox rules, and your Workshop mods (the Mods= and WorkshopItems= lines).
  4. Forward the ports. UDP 16261 and 16262, otherwise players outside your home network can't join.
  5. Keep it running as a service or in tmux/screen on Linux.

After that it is on you: updating on every patch, scheduling world backups, restarting after crashes, and absorbing DDoS yourself.
