Rust Console Commands: Player, Admin and Server Commands (2026)
by Clay B.
Rust has hundreds of console commands, but most players use maybe ten of them, and most server admins use maybe thirty. This page covers those, sorted by who can actually run them. If a command needs admin rights, the table says so. If it only works from the server console or RCON, the table says that too.
Everything below was checked against Facepunch's own wiki and the current Rust server command list as of the September 2026 update. Commands change with the monthly force wipes, so if something doesn't respond, type find followed by part of the name (for example find teleport) and the game will list what's actually available on your build.
How to open the console in Rust
Press F1 in game. The console opens with a text box at the bottom. Type a command, press Enter, and the result prints above it. You don't need to be on a server for most client settings; you can open it from the main menu.
A few things that trip people up:
- True/false settings accept
1and0too.streamermode 1andstreamermode truedo the same thing. - Arguments with spaces need quotes:
ban "Some Player" "cheating". - Settings you change in F1 aren't always saved. Run
writecfgafterwards if you want them to stick after a restart. - Console on PlayStation or Xbox? Rust Console Edition doesn't have the PC F1 console. Community server owners on console configure things through their host's panel instead, and the command set is different from PC.
Who can run what: player, admin, and server console
Rust commands fall into three groups, and mixing them up is the most common reason a command "does nothing."
- Client commands. Anyone can run these in F1. They change your own game: graphics, binds, chat, respawning.
- Admin commands. These run on the server, so you need an auth level on that server. Auth level 1 is a moderator (
moderatorid), auth level 2 is an owner (ownerid). Without one of those, the server ignores you. - Server console / RCON only. Some commands are meant to be typed into the server's own console or an RCON tool, not F1. That includes the startup settings like
server.portandrcon.password, which only take effect when the server boots.
Plugin commands from Oxide (uMod) or Carbon are a fourth group. They only exist if the server runs that framework, and chat commands like /tp or /kit come from individual plugins, not from Rust itself.
Player commands anyone can use
These work on any server, no admin needed.
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
kill | Kills your character and sends you to the respawn screen. Same as "Suicide" in the Esc menu. There's a short cooldown if you spam it. | kill |
respawn | Respawns you. Worth trying when kill doesn't work because your character is stuck or bugged. | respawn |
combatlog | Shows recent damage you dealt and took: who hit you, with what, at what distance. The first thing to check after a death that felt wrong. | combatlog |
server.combatlog_outgoing | Same combat log, filtered to only the damage you dealt. | server.combatlog_outgoing |
ping | Prints your latency to the server. | ping |
version | Prints the game version and build. On a server it shows the server's version. | version |
gesture <name> | Plays a gesture. Options include wave, victory, shrug, thumbsup, chicken, hurry, whoa. | gesture wave |
chat.say "<text>" | Sends a message to global chat. Mostly useful inside a bind. | chat.say "gg" |
chat.teamsay "<text>" | Sends a message to team chat. | chat.teamsay "raid at 12" |
client.connect <ip:port> | Connects straight to a server by IP. connect also works. | client.connect 192.0.2.10:28015 |
client.disconnect | Leaves the server you're on. | client.disconnect |
mute <player> | Without admin, hides that player's chat for you only. | mute "Some Player" |
mutelist | Lists who you've muted locally. | mutelist |
find <text> | Searches every command and setting on your build that contains the text. | find fov |
console.clear | Clears the F1 console. | console.clear |
console.copy | Copies everything in the console to your clipboard. Handy for sharing an error or a combat log. | console.copy |
FPS, graphics, and performance commands
Most of these are also in the options menu, but the console is faster and some only exist here.
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
perf <0-6> | Shows performance stats in the bottom-left corner. 1 is FPS only, higher numbers add frame latency, RAM, ping, invokes, and tasks. 0 turns it off. | perf 1 |
fps.limit <number> | Caps your frame rate. -1 removes the cap. | fps.limit 144 |
graphics.fov <number> | Sets field of view. | graphics.fov 90 |
graphics.vm_fov_scale <0/1> | Turns weapon viewmodel FOV scaling off or on. | graphics.vm_fov_scale 0 |
streamermode <1/0> | Hides player names and server info on screen. | streamermode 1 |
audio.master <0-1> | Master volume. | audio.master 0.5 |
benchmark | Runs Rust's built-in benchmark. Useful before and after a driver update. | benchmark |
writecfg | Saves your current settings and binds to your config files. | writecfg |
If you're chasing FPS, perf 1 plus fps.limit -1 is the quickest way to see what your machine is actually doing before you start changing graphics settings.
Useful binds
A bind attaches a command to a key. The basic format is bind <key> <command>, typed into F1. Binds are saved to keys.cfg in your Rust install folder, so run writecfg after making them.
| Bind | What it does |
|---|---|
bind [leftshift+k] kill | Suicide on Shift+K. The two-key version stops you killing yourself by accident. |
bind x forward;sprint | Auto-run. Keeps sprinting forward until you press W again. |
bind z duck | Crouch toggle. |
bind f1 consoletoggle;combatlog | Opens the console and prints your combat log in one press. |
bind mouse1 +lighttoggle;+attack2 | Turns your flashlight or laser on while you aim down sights. |
bind h "craft.add -2072273936 1" | Crafts one bandage. -2072273936 is the bandage item ID. |
bind 7 chat.say "Hello everyone!" | Sends a set message to global chat. |
bind f10 client.disconnect | Disconnects from the server. |
The syntax that makes binds useful:
- A semicolon (
;) runs several commands from one key. - A plus sign (
+) makes the action hold-only.bind x +forward;+sprintsprints only while X is held, whilebind x forward;sprintkeeps going after you let go. - A tilde (
~) cycles between actions each time you press the key:bind rightarrow ~graphics.fov 70;graphics.fov 90. - To remove a bind, bind the key to nothing:
bind x ""orbind x clear. There's no separate unbind command.
A multi-key bind like [leftshift+k] doesn't free up the single key. If K already has something bound, pressing Shift+K will trigger both.
How to make yourself admin in Rust
Admin commands only work once the server knows your Steam64 ID (the 17-digit number starting with 7656). On a running server, open the server console or RCON and type:
ownerid 76561198000000000 "YourName"
Use moderatorid instead for auth level 1. Then disconnect and reconnect so the server applies your new auth level. The change is saved automatically on current builds; running server.writecfg afterwards doesn't hurt.
If you can't reach a console, stop the server and add the same line to users.cfg in server/<your identity>/cfg/. On a Host Havoc server both options are in the control panel, and our step-by-step admin guide walks through them with screenshots.
To remove admin later: removeowner <Steam64ID> or removemoderator <Steam64ID>. Only an owner (auth level 2) can add another owner.
Admin commands (in game, needs auth level)
You run these from F1 while connected to a server where you're a moderator or owner. They also work from the server console or RCON, except the ones that act on "you" or "where you're looking," which need a player in the world.
Moving around and god mode
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
noclip | Toggles flying through everything. Same command turns it off. | noclip |
god true / god false | God mode. You take no damage and don't get hungry or thirsty. | god true |
debugcamera | Free camera, detached from your player. | debugcamera |
admintime <0-24> | Changes the time of day for you only. -1 resets it. Useful for looking at a base at night without changing everyone's time. | admintime 12 |
spectate <player> | Spectates a player. Without a name it enters spectator mode. | spectate "Some Player" |
Teleport commands
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
teleport <player> | Teleports you to a player. With two names it moves the first player to the second. | teleport "Some Player" |
teleport2me <player> | Brings a player to you. | teleport2me "Some Player" |
teleport2marker | Teleports you to the marker you placed on your map. The fastest way to get around as an admin. | teleport2marker |
teleportpos "<x, y, z>" | Teleports you to exact coordinates. | teleportpos "1200, 30, -450" |
teleportlos | Teleports you to whatever you're looking at. | teleportlos |
teleport2owneditem <player> | Teleports you to something that player placed. Good for finding someone's base. | teleport2owneditem 76561198000000000 |
teleportany <entity> | Teleports you to the nearest entity of that type. | teleportany bear |
printpos | Prints your current coordinates, which you can reuse with teleportpos. | printpos |
Player names work when they're unique. If two people have similar names, use their Steam64 ID instead.
Items and spawning
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
inventory.give <item> <amount> | Gives you an item by its short name. | inventory.give rifle.ak 1 |
inventory.giveto <player> <item> <amount> | Gives an item to another player. | inventory.giveto "Some Player" wood 1000 |
inventory.giveid <itemid> <amount> | Gives an item by numeric ID instead of short name. | inventory.giveid -2072273936 5 |
inventory.giveall <item> | Gives an item to every connected player, and announces it in chat. | inventory.giveall bandage |
inventory.clearinventory <player> | Clears a player's inventory. Add --belt, --wear, or --backpack to clear only that part. | inventory.clearinventory "Some Player" |
spawn <entity> | Spawns an entity where you're looking. If the name doesn't match exactly, you get a list of suggestions. | spawn minicopter.entity |
debug.refillvitals | Fills your health, food, and water. Add a player name to target someone else. | debug.refillvitals |
Item short names are things like wood, stones, metal.fragments, rifle.ak, and ammo.rifle. The full list lives on the Rust wiki items page.
Entities and world events
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
ent kill | Destroys the entity you're looking at. | ent kill |
ent who | Shows the Steam64 ID of whoever placed what you're looking at. | ent who |
ent lock / ent unlock | Locks or unlocks the code lock or key lock you're looking at. | ent unlock |
debug.lookingat | Prints the prefab path of what you're looking at. | debug.lookingat |
heli.calltome | Sends the patrol helicopter to your position. | heli.calltome |
heli.call | Starts a patrol helicopter event. | heli.call |
bradley.quickrespawn | Respawns the Bradley APC at Launch Site right away. | bradley.quickrespawn |
weather.load <preset> | Forces a weather preset. weather.reset goes back to normal weather. | weather.load clear |
env.time <0-24> | Sets the time of day for the whole server. | env.time 12 |
Moderation commands
These work from F1 as an admin, from the server console, or over RCON.
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
status | Lists connected players with Steam64 ID, name, ping, connected time, and IP. | status |
players | Shorter player list with IDs and ping. | players |
kick <player> <reason> | Kicks a player. They can rejoin straight away. | kick "Some Player" "spamming" |
kickall <reason> | Kicks everyone. Handy before a manual restart. | kickall "restarting" |
ban <player> <reason> <duration> | Bans a connected player. Duration is optional; leave it off for a permanent ban. | ban "Some Player" "cheating" 7d |
banid <Steam64ID> <name> <reason> <duration> | Bans by Steam64 ID. The player doesn't have to be online. | banid 76561198000000000 "Some Player" "alt account" |
unban <Steam64ID> | Removes a ban. | unban 76561198000000000 |
banlistex | Lists bans with names and reasons. | banlistex |
mute <player> / unmute <player> | As admin, mutes or unmutes a player's chat for the whole server. | mute "Some Player" |
killplayer <player> | Kills that player. | killplayer 76561198000000000 |
skipqueue <Steam64ID> | Moves a player to the front of the join queue. | skipqueue 76561198000000000 |
Ban durations use a number followed by a unit, and you can stack them: 1M7d5m is one month, seven days, and five minutes. Our guide on banning and unbanning players covers doing this from the Host Havoc web console.
Server console and RCON commands
These are for running the server itself. Type them into your host's console or an RCON tool such as RustAdmin. An admin in F1 can run most of them too; to broadcast say from the in-game console, Facepunch's wiki notes you need the sv prefix, as in sv say "text".
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
say "<message>" | Broadcasts a message in chat to everyone on the server. | say "Restart in 10 minutes" |
server.save | Forces a world save right now. | server.save |
server.writecfg | Writes current server settings to the config files. | server.writecfg |
restart <seconds> "<message>" | Restarts the server after a countdown, warning players in chat. With no arguments it counts down from 300 seconds. | restart 60 "Quick restart" |
quit | Saves and shuts the server down. | quit |
serverinfo | Prints a summary of the server's current state. | serverinfo |
server.fps | Prints the server's current frame rate. Low server FPS is what players feel as lag. | server.fps |
wipetimer.printwipe | Shows when the next wipe is scheduled according to the wipe timer settings. | wipetimer.printwipe |
users | Lists players with Steam64 IDs, which is what you need for ownerid. | users |
If you'd rather not restart by hand, see setting up automatic restarts.
Server settings (convars) worth knowing
Convars are settings you can change live by typing the name and a value, like decay.scale 0.5. Typing just the name prints the current value. Live changes are lost on restart unless you put them in server.cfg (in server/<identity>/cfg/) or run server.writecfg.
| Convar | Default | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
server.hostname | Server name in the browser. | |
server.description | Description shown on the server's page in the browser. | |
server.url | Website link shown in the browser. | |
server.headerimage | Banner image URL. Our header image guide covers sizes. | |
server.logoimage | Logo image URL for the server browser. | |
server.maxplayers | Player slots. | |
server.pve | False | Turns off player-vs-player damage. |
server.saveinterval | 600 | Seconds between automatic saves. |
server.idlekick | 30 | Minutes before an idle player is kicked. 0 disables it. |
decay.scale | 1 | Decay speed. 0 turns decay off, 2 doubles it. |
decay.upkeep | True | Whether tool cupboard upkeep is enabled at all. |
decay.upkeep_group_scaling | True | New in the September 2026 update. Adds an upkeep tax for large groups on one TC. Set to false to turn it off. |
craft.instant | False | Instant crafting. |
hackablelockedcrate.requiredhackseconds | 900 | How long a locked crate takes to hack, in seconds. |
wipetimer.wipedayofweek | 4 | Day the wipe timer counts down to. 0 is Sunday, 4 is Thursday. |
wipetimer.wipehourofday | 19 | Hour of the wipe. 14.5 means 2:30 pm. |
wipetimer.wipetimezone | Europe/London | Time zone the wipe timer uses. |
The group upkeep tax from September is controlled by a set of decay.upkeep_group_* convars. By default the first 4 players on a TC pay nothing extra, the next 6 add 2% each, anyone beyond that adds 4% each, and the total is capped at 300%. If you run a clan-heavy or low-pop server, those are the values to look at.
For planning wipes around Facepunch's monthly force wipe, see scheduling an automatic wipe.
Startup-only settings
These are read when the server boots, so they go in your startup command line (or your host's startup settings), not in F1.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
server.port | Game port. Default 28015, UDP. |
server.queryport | Port the server browser uses to find you. Must be different from server.port. |
server.identity | Folder name for this server's save and config files. |
server.seed / server.worldsize | Procedural map seed and size. Changing either one gives you a different map. |
server.level | Map type. Procedural Map unless you're using a custom map. |
rcon.port / rcon.password / rcon.web | Remote console access. Change the password from the default. |
If your server doesn't appear in the in-game list, a wrong query port is the usual cause. This guide goes through the fixes.
Oxide (uMod) and Carbon plugin commands
These only exist if the server runs Oxide or Carbon. You run them from the server console or RCON, or from F1 as an owner. If you haven't set up a framework yet, start with how to install Rust mods.
| Oxide (uMod) | Carbon | What it does |
|---|---|---|
oxide.version | c.version | Shows the framework version. |
oxide.plugins | c.plugins | Lists plugins. Oxide's list includes ones that failed to load. |
oxide.load <plugin> | c.load <plugin> | Loads a plugin. |
oxide.unload <plugin> | c.unload <plugin> | Unloads a plugin. |
oxide.reload <plugin> | c.reload <plugin> | Reloads a plugin. Use it after editing its config. Both accept * to reload everything. |
oxide.grant user <name> <permission> | c.grant | Gives a player a plugin permission. |
oxide.grant group <group> <permission> | c.grant | Gives a whole group a permission. |
oxide.revoke user <name> <permission> | c.revoke | Removes a permission. |
oxide.group add <group> | c.group | Creates a permission group. |
oxide.usergroup add <name> <group> | c.usergroup | Adds a player to a group. |
oxide.show user <name> | c.show | Shows a player's groups and permissions. |
Oxide commands also accept the short o. prefix, so o.reload Kits and o.plugins work. For Carbon's permission commands, type the command on its own (for example c.grant) and it prints the exact syntax it expects. Plugin permissions look like pluginname.permission, and a wildcard such as oxide.grant user Wulf kits.* grants all of them for one plugin.

FAQ
How do I use admin commands in Rust?
Get your Steam64 ID added with ownerid or moderatorid from the server console, reconnect, then type the commands into F1. If the server replies that you don't have permission, the ID was wrong or you haven't reconnected yet.
How do you turn on god mode in Rust?
Type god true in F1 while you have admin on the server. god false turns it off. On a server where you aren't an admin, there's no way to do it.
How do you fly in Rust?
noclip toggles flying for admins. Bind it to a key if you use it a lot: bind j noclip.
What's the Rust command to kill yourself?
kill. If that does nothing because your character is stuck, try respawn.
Why isn't a command working?
Usually one of three things. You're missing admin on that server, the command is server-console only, or it was renamed in an update. Run find with part of the name to see what your build actually has.
Do console commands work on Rust Console Edition?
No, not the PC ones. The PlayStation and Xbox version doesn't have the F1 console, and community server settings there are handled differently.
Run your own Rust server
Most of the useful commands on this page need admin, and the easiest way to have admin is to own the server. Host Havoc Rust servers come with a web console for RCON, one-click Oxide install, and a file editor for server.cfg and users.cfg, so you can use everything above without setting up SteamCMD yourself. If you'd rather do it by hand, our guide on how to host your own Rust server covers both routes.
