Rust Server Not Showing on the In-Game List

Published 9 June 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

New Rust servers can take 24 to 48 hours to appear in the in-game browser after first launch. If your server has been running longer than that and still does not show up, the steps below cover the most common causes. You can always connect directly by adding the server to your Steam Favorites while you wait.

Note: Servers with EAC disabled will not appear in the in-game server list. Modded servers with uMod/Oxide installed appear only under the Modded section, not Community.

Fix 1: Shorten your hostname

  1. Log into the Game Control Panel.
  2. Go to Configuration Files and open server.cfg.
  3. Make sure your hostname is no longer than 40 characters and contains no special characters.
  4. Save the config and restart the server.

Fix 2: Select your custom commandline

  1. Open the Commandline Manager in your control panel.
  2. Click the Select button on the right side of your active commandline to ensure it is applied.

Fix 3: Force-validate server files

  1. Open the File Manager.
  2. Right-click and delete the steamapps folder.
  3. Run the Steam Update module from the control panel.
  4. Wait for the files to finish validating, then start your server.

Add to Steam Favorites {#add-to-steam-favorites}

This lets you connect directly regardless of browser listing:

  1. Open your Steam client.
  2. Click View at the top left, then click Servers.
  3. Go to the Favorites tab and click Add Server to Favorites.
  4. Paste your server's IP and port in IP:PORT format (visible in your control panel).
  5. Click Refresh in the Steam server browser, then click your server and join.
