How to Add Admins to Your Valheim Server

Admin access on your Valheim server is granted by adding player IDs to the adminlist.txt file. Steam players use their Steam64 ID with a V_ prefix. Console and Game Pass players use their own platform ID, which requires crossplay to be enabled first.

Find the player's ID

Since Valheim 1.0, each player ID in adminlist.txt starts with a platform prefix. The safest way to get the right value is the in-game player panel:

  1. Join the server while the player is online.
  2. Press F2 to open the player info panel and find the player.
  3. Copy their ID exactly as shown, including the prefix, for example V_ for Steam or X_ for Xbox and Game Pass. Other platforms, such as PS5 and Switch 2, use their own prefix.
  4. Add the ID on its own line in adminlist.txt using the steps below, then restart the server.

Add a Steam admin

  1. Log into the Game Control Panel and navigate to your server.
  2. Click Configuration Files.
  3. Locate adminlist.txt and click Text Editor.
  4. Enter the player's ID on a new line, including the V_ prefix. Copy it from the F2 panel in-game, or look up their Steam64 ID at steamidfinder.com and add V_ in front. It should look like V_76561198XXXXXXXXX. If the F2 panel shows a different value, use that one.
  5. Click Save and restart the server.

Add an Xbox or Game Pass admin

Before you start: Crossplay must be enabled on your server before Xbox and Game Pass players can connect. Follow the Enable Crossplay guide first.

  1. Start or join a game. On Xbox, open the pause menu and select Player List. On PC (Game Pass), press F2 instead.
  2. Find the player and copy their ID exactly as shown, including the X_ prefix.
  3. Log into the Game Control Panel and navigate to your server.
  4. Click Stop to stop the server.
  5. Click Configuration Files, locate adminlist.txt, and open it with Text Editor.
  6. Paste the ID on a new line, including the X_ prefix, and click Save. It should look like X_123264873210.
  7. Start the server.

Enable the in-game console (Xbox and Game Pass)
