How to Add Admins to Your Valheim Server

Admin access on your Valheim server is granted by adding player IDs to the adminlist.txt file. Steam players use their Steam64 ID; Xbox and Game Pass players use their XboxID, which requires crossplay to be enabled first.

Add a Steam admin

  1. Log into the Game Control Panel and navigate to your server.
  2. Click Configuration Files.
  3. Locate adminlist.txt and click Text Editor.
  4. Enter the player's Steam64 ID on a new line, but include a V_ infront of it You can find a Steam64 ID at steamidfinder.com or by pressing F2 in-game. It should look like V_7698031657843 .
  5. Click Save and restart the server.

Add an Xbox or Game Pass admin

Before you start: Crossplay must be enabled on your server before Xbox and Game Pass players can connect. Follow the Enable Crossplay guide first.

  1. To obtain your xboxID, start a game in single player.
  2. Once you are ingame, Hold LB + LT, then press the View button. This will open the dev/playinfo window..
  3. Look for your player details, it should show your XboxID. Copy this down.
  4. Log into the Game Control Panel and navigate to your server.
  5. Click Stop to stop the server.
  6. Click Configuration Files, locate Adminnlist.txt, and open it with Text Editor.
  7. Paste the XboxID on a new line, include an X_ infront of the ID, and click Save. It should look like X_123264873210.
  8. Start the server.

Enable the in-game console (Xbox and Game Pass)

To use admin commands in-game on Game Pass, you need to launch Valheim with the -console flag:

  1. Navigate to the game install folder, by default C:\XboxGames\Valheim\Content\.
  2. Right-click valheim.exe and select Create Shortcut.
  3. Right-click the shortcut and click Properties.
  4. On the Shortcut tab, find the Target field and append -console to the end, leaving a space before the flag.
  5. Click OK to save.
  6. Launch the game using the shortcut. Press F5 to open the console.
