How to Add Admins to Your Valheim Server

Updated June 10, 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

Admin access on your Valheim server is granted by adding player IDs to the adminlist.txt file. Steam players use their Steam64 ID; Xbox and Game Pass players use their XboxID, which requires crossplay to be enabled first.

Add a Steam admin

  1. Log into the Game Control Panel and navigate to your server.
  2. Click Configuration Files.
  3. Locate adminlist.txt and click Text Editor.
  4. Enter the player's Steam64 ID on a new line. You can find a Steam64 ID at steamidfinder.com or by pressing F2 in-game.
  5. Click Save and restart the server.

Add an Xbox or Game Pass admin

Before you start: Crossplay must be enabled on your server before Xbox and Game Pass players can connect. Follow the Enable Crossplay guide first.

  1. Open the Web Console in your server's control panel.
  2. Have the Xbox or Game Pass player join the server.
  3. Watch the Web Console for a log line containing the player's XboxID. It will look similar to:
01/19/2023 16:28:17: PlayFab socket with remote ID playfab/63B203A7D9581654 received local Platform ID Xbox_2433224801742044

  4. Copy the XboxID value, for example Xbox_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
  5. Click Stop to stop the server.
  6. Click Configuration Files, locate Adminnlist.txt, and open it with Text Editor.
  7. Paste the XboxID on a new line and click Save.
  8. Start the server.

Enable the in-game console (Xbox and Game Pass)

To use admin commands in-game on Game Pass, you need to launch Valheim with the -console flag:

  1. Navigate to the game install folder, by default C:\XboxGames\Valheim\Content\.
  2. Right-click valheim.exe and select Create Shortcut.
  3. Right-click the shortcut and click Properties.
  4. On the Shortcut tab, find the Target field and append -console to the end, leaving a space before the flag.
  5. Click OK to save.
  6. Launch the game using the shortcut. Press F5 to open the console.
