How to Reinstall Your Project Zomboid Server

Published June 9, 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

Reinstalling resets your server to the state it was in when you first received it, which is useful when troubleshooting persistent issues or starting fresh. If you have files you want to keep, download them before proceeding. For a less destructive reset, consider uploading a save instead.

Before you start: Reinstalling deletes all server files except backups. Download anything you want to keep before starting.

Reinstall the server

  1. Log in to your Game Control Panel.
  2. Stop your server.
  3. Click the More button.

  4. Click Reinstall.

  5. On the confirmation screen, click the Reinstall button. Keep the Default values option selected unless you have a specific reason to change it.

The process deletes all files in your server directory, downloads a fresh copy of the game server files, and installs a default configuration. This may take several minutes depending on the size of the game files. Once complete, you will have a clean server ready to configure.
