How to Change the Level Seed

Published June 9, 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

The level seed determines the terrain layout of your Minecraft world. Changing it only affects the next world generation, so you must also reset the world after updating the seed for the change to take effect.

Before you start: Changing the seed without resetting the world has no effect. The existing world was already generated from the old seed and will continue to load as-is.

Change the seed

  1. Log into the Minecraft panel.
  2. Open your server's control panel page.
  3. Click Files on the left side, then click Config Files.
  4. Find the Level Seed option and enter your desired seed value. Leave the field blank for a randomly generated seed.
  5. Click Save.

Reset the world

After saving the new seed, reset the world so the server generates fresh terrain using it. Follow the reset world guide to delete the existing world folders, then start the server.
