Where is PalWorldSettings.ini located?

On Windows servers it's at steamapps/common/PalServer/Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/PalWorldSettings.ini, and on Linux at .../Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini. Don't edit DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. The game ignores changes to that file; it only documents the defaults.

Why aren't my settings applying?

The three usual causes: you edited DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini instead of PalWorldSettings.ini; the server was running while you edited (settings are only read at startup, so restart it); or your hosting panel manages the file and overwrites manual edits, in which case change the settings through the panel instead.

How do I raise XP, catch rates or loot drops?

Most balance settings are multipliers where 1 is the game's default. ExpRate=2 doubles experience, PalCaptureRate=1.5 makes captures noticeably easier, EnemyDropItemRate=2 doubles loot. The sliders above mark whether a change makes the game easier or harder.

How do I make eggs hatch faster?

Lower PalEggDefaultHatchingTime. It's the hatching time in hours for huge eggs (smaller eggs scale down from it). Set it to 0 for instant hatching, which pairs nicely with serious breeding projects.

Which settings can hurt server performance?

The big ones are PalSpawnNumRate (more wild Pals to simulate), BaseCampWorkerMaxNum and BaseCampMaxNum (more working Pals and bases), and DropItemMaxNum (more items lying in the world). Raise them gradually and watch your server's CPU.

Is this generator up to date?

The 108 settings and their default values are parsed directly from the dedicated server's own configuration file.

How to apply these settings

Dedicated servers read their settings from PalWorldSettings.ini. Depending on the platform, the file lives at:

Windows: steamapps/common/PalServer/Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/PalWorldSettings.ini
Linux: steamapps/common/PalServer/Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini

Stop the server before editing, replace the contents of the file with the generated output, then start the server again. Settings are only read on boot, so a running server won't pick up changes.
