The manual way: self-hosting
Enshrouded ships a Windows-only dedicated server tool. The bottleneck is RAM: budget about 16 GB (32 GB for full groups), a quad-core CPU, no GPU, on a box that stays on 24/7. On Linux there is no native build, so you run it through Wine or Proton.
- On Linux, install Wine or Proton first; on Windows you are ready to go.
- Download the server with SteamCMD using the dedicated-server App ID:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2278520 validate +quit
- Launch the server once to generate enshrouded_server.json, then edit the key fields: name, password, slotCount (max 16), gamePort, queryPort, and saveDirectory.
- Forward UDP 15636 (game) and UDP 15637 (query) on your router and firewall.
- Keep it running: a Windows service, or screen/tmux on Linux.
After that it is on you: patching every Early Access update, world-save backups, restarting after crashes, and absorbing DDoS attacks.
