How to Fix a 7 Days to Die Server Not Starting
If your 7 Days to Die server refuses to start, stale Steam files or a misconfigured config file are the most common causes. The steps below walk you through clearing those issues and getting your server online.
Before you start: Stop the server completely before making any file changes.
Steps to Fix a Server That Won't Start
- Log in to your Game Control Panel.
- Open the File Manager and check whether a folder named steamapps is present. If it is, right-click it and delete it.
- Click the Update Server Files icon to download a fresh copy of the server files.
- Open serverconfigmain.xml in the Configuration Editor, review your settings, and click Save.
- Start the server.
Note: If the server still does not start after these steps, use the Reinstall option. Click the More button, then select Reinstall. See How to Reinstall Your 7 Days to Die Server for full details.
Troubleshooting
Server starts but crashes immediately. Open the console log from the panel and look for error lines near the bottom. A missing or corrupted map file is a common cause. Reinstalling or generating a new world usually resolves it.
Update Server Files icon is greyed out. The server must be stopped before the update can run. Stop the server first, then click the icon again.
