How to Find Your RCON Password
RCON (remote console) lets you run admin commands on your server without joining the game. Your RCON password is set in your server's own settings in the game panel. RCON works as soon as the server is running and a password is set, so if none is set yet, add one first.
Find or set your RCON password
- Log in to the Game Control Panel and open your server.
- Click Configuration Files and open the file for your game from the table below. On PixARK, use the Command Line Manager instead.
- Find the RCON or admin password setting. Copy it, or type a new one.
- Save, then restart the server so a new password takes effect.
Check the Command Line Manager
Some games read their passwords from the server's startup options, set in the Command Line Manager, and a value there can override the config file. Check it if you can't find the password, or if a password you changed in a config file isn't working:
- In the game panel, click Command Line Manager.
- Click Select on the command line your server uses (usually "Default").
- Look for an RCON Password or Admin Password field. Copy it or change it there.
- Click Save, then restart the server.
PixARK keeps the password here, and on Rust you'll find it here as well as in server.cfg. On ARK, if your command line sets an admin password, it has to match the one in GameUserSettings.ini.
Where the password is for each game
| Game | Where to find it | Full guide |
|---|---|---|
| ARK: Survival Evolved | ServerAdminPassword in GameUserSettings.ini | ARK admin commands |
| Rust | RCon Password in server.cfg (also shown in the Command Line Manager) | Set up RustAdmin |
| Palworld | Admin/RCon Password in PalWorldSettings.ini | Palworld admin commands |
| 7 Days to Die | Telnet/RCON Password in serverconfigmain.xml | Make yourself an admin |
| Conan Exiles | RconPassword in Game.ini | Use RCON on Conan Exiles |
| Counter-Strike 2 | rcon_password in server.cfg | Set passwords on CS2 |
| Garry's Mod | rcon_password in server.cfg | Configure RCON on Garry's Mod |
| Arma 3 | RConPassword in beserver_x64.cfg (beserver.cfg on x86), a file you create in A3DS/BattlEye | Configure RCON for Arma 3 |
| DayZ | RConPassword in BEServer_x64.cfg. This is the BattlEye password, separate from the in-game admin password | Ban or kick players on DayZ |
| Unturned | The <RCON> block in Rocket.config.xml (needs RocketMod) | Use RCON on Unturned |
| PixARK | Tick Enable RCON in the Command Line Manager; it uses your admin password | Use RCON on PixARK |
Use the password
In the Web Console
On Rust, Palworld, 7 Days to Die and Conan Exiles, open Web Console in the game panel and enter your RCON password when it asks. You can then type commands. On Palworld, leave off the leading /.
In an RCON tool
Enter your server IP, the RCON port and the password. Your RCON port is listed in your game panel. It's usually different from your game port, so copy it from the panel.
Each game's guide names the tool we recommend: RustAdmin for Rust, BERCon for DayZ, Arkon for PixARK and PuTTY (Telnet) for Unturned.
Games without an RCON password
Project Zomboid, Hytale, Vintage Story and Wreckfest 2 don't use an RCON password. Admin access works differently on each, so follow your game's admin guide, such as becoming an admin on Project Zomboid.
Troubleshooting
- The password is rejected. Check you copied it exactly, with no extra spaces, and that you restarted the server after changing it. Then check the Command Line Manager: a password set there can override the config file.
- The tool can't connect. Use the RCON port shown in your game panel, not the game port, and make sure the server is running.
- Still stuck. Open a support ticket. Our support team is available 24/7.
Note: Anyone with your RCON password can run admin commands on your server. Use a strong password and keep it out of public Discord channels and screenshots.
