How to Set Up a Random World (RWG) on Your 7 Days to Die Server

Published 9 June 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

Random World Generation (RWG) creates a unique procedurally generated map each time it runs, giving you and your players a fresh landscape. You configure it through the game panel's Config Editor. If you later want to wipe and regenerate the world, see our guide on resetting the world.

Note: RWG worlds can take 5 to 15 minutes to generate when the server first starts. This is normal.

Steps

  1. Log into your Game Control Panel.
  2. Click Configuration Files in the left-hand menu.
  3. Open the Config Editor for the configuration file you are using.
  4. Locate the Game World setting and set the value to RWG.
  5. Optionally, update the Save Name, World Gen Seed, and World Gen Size fields to customise the generated map.
  6. Click Save and Exit.
  7. Start your service. The server generates the world on first boot.

Tip: Write down your World Gen Seed and World Gen Size. You will need these values if you ever want to upload a world or restore the same map layout later.
