How to Add a Password to Your 7 Days to Die Server

Adding a password to your 7 Days to Die server prevents uninvited players from joining. You set it by editing serverconfigmain.xml in the game panel. You may also want to change your server name at the same time to make your server easy to find for your group.

Before you start: Stop your server before editing configuration files to ensure the changes apply correctly.

Steps

  1. Log into your Game Control Panel.
  2. Stop your service if it is running.
  3. Click Configuration Files in the left-hand menu.
  4. Open serverconfigmain.xml using either the Text Editor or Config Editor.
  5. Locate the Server Password field and enter your chosen password.
  6. Click Save and Exit.

  7. Start your service. Players will be prompted to enter the password when they attempt to connect.

Tip: To remove the password later, clear the Server Password field and save. The server will become public again on the next restart.
