How to Install Mods on Your 7 Days to Die Server

Updated 10 June 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

Mods extend your 7 Days to Die server with new content, balance changes, and gameplay tweaks. This guide covers manual mod installation via FTP. To install the Darkness Falls overhaul mod, see How to Install Darkness Falls.

Before you start: Stop your server before uploading any mod files.

Steps to Install a Mod

  1. Download your chosen mod from 7daystodiemods.com or NexusMods.
  2. Extract the downloaded archive to a location on your computer.
  3. Identify the correct folder to upload. The correct folder is the one that contains the ModInfo.xml file. For example, if the archive extracts to \Downloads\ExampleMod\ExampleModFolder\ModInfo.xml, upload ExampleModFolder.
  4. Connect to your server via FTP.
  5. Navigate to the Mods folder in the root directory of your server.
  6. Upload the mod folder (the one containing ModInfo.xml) into the Mods folder.
  7. Start your server.

Note: Some mods use non-standard installation methods. Always check the mod author's instructions before installing.

Finding Mods

Certain mods, including Darkness Falls, are available directly in the panel. Click the Non-Workshop Mods section in your Game Control Panel and click Install next to the mod you want. If the mod you need is not listed there, use the manual FTP method above.
