About Wreckfest 2: Bugbear's demolition derby racer for 24-car grids
Wreckfest 2 is Bugbear's sequel to Wreckfest, a racing game built around soft-body damage where cars bend and crumple as the race goes on. It has been in Steam Early Access on Windows since March 20, 2025, with no 1.0 date announced yet, and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are announced but undated. Races and derbies run up to 24 participants, with bots filling empty slots. A dedicated server keeps your lobby, rules, and event rotation online without anyone leaving the game running on their own PC, which makes regular league nights and open derby servers practical.
Event rotation, bots, and admin roles
Server rules live in server_config.scnf: server name, password, and the event rotation with track, laps, bot count, and participant limit. On Host Havoc you edit it in the built-in Config Editor or over FTP. Admins are granted from the Web Console with the role command and a player's Steam64 ID.
Early Access updates and Steam Workshop
Bugbear ships regular content updates, and players can only join a server running the same build as their game, so keeping the server current matters. Steam Workshop support is planned during Early Access but is not live yet. Until it ships, you get full FTP access to your server files.
How to Set Up a Wreckfest 2 Dedicated Server
With Host Havoc
The easy way: with Host Havoc
- Pick a region. Every plan is the full 24-slot grid, in the datacenter closest to your group.
- Deploy in minutes. Your server launches on the latest Early Access build, ready to find in the server browser.
- Manage from the panel. Edit
server_config.scnfin the built-in Config Editor and grant admin from the Web Console. No port forwarding.
Automated backups, DDoS protection, and 24/7 support are included.
Without Host Havoc
The manual way: self-hosting
Bugbear's Wreckfest 2 Dedicated Server is a Windows tool with no native Linux build (Wine or Proton setups are unofficial). Bugbear publishes no server specs: single-thread CPU speed matters more than core count, so plan for about 4 fast cores and 8 GB of RAM for a full 24-car grid with bots.
- Download the server with SteamCMD using Steam App ID
3519390. It is tied to your Wreckfest 2 license, so log in with the Steam account that owns the game (anonymous login won't fetch it):steamcmd +login <username> +app_update 3519390 validate +quit - Launch it once with
start_community_server.bat. Add--save-dir=<path>to keep config and saves in a folder you choose (the folder must already exist). - Edit
server_config.scnfin that folder. Set the servername, password, andgame port, then build the event rotation: track, laps, bot count, and max participants. - Forward UDP
30100(the defaultgame port) on your router and firewall. - Make yourself admin from the server console with
role <steam64id>,admin, then keep the process running on an always-on Windows PC.
After that it is on you: updating on every Early Access patch (client and server builds must match), backing up your config and event files, restarting after crashes, and absorbing DDoS yourself.
