How to add mods to your ARK server

At Host Havoc, all of our ARK servers support the use of mods available on the Steam workshop. Please take into account that when using mods, we cannot guarantee their functionality or responsible for any issues that they may cause (data loss, crashes, etc.). It is recommended you first back up your saved data by running the Create Backup function within the game control panel.

Method one:
Open your game panel and click on the Steam Workshop icon in your panel and search for the mods you'd like to use by name or mod ID and click install.
This method will automatically add the mod IDs to your configuration file.

This method can also be used to add a collection of mods.

Method two:

Using the control panel's built-in mod handler:
Step 1: Open Steam, and navigate to the ARK workshop and find the mod you'd like to use on your server.
Step 2: At the end of the link shown in the workshop listing, there is a numeric value, this is the mod's ID. Copy this number value down. See the image below for an example. If you can't see the URL then you'll need to enable it in your Steam's interface settings or view the page in a standard web browser.



Step 3: Log into our game control panel.
Step 4: Open your Configuration Files module and open the GameUserSettings.ini in the Configuration Editor or the Text Editor.
Step 5: Search for a setting with the name ActiveMods. If using a text editor and it doesn't exist, you may add a line containing "ActiveMods=" below the [ServerSettings] section.
Step 6: Add your mod IDs onto the end of the ActiveMods= line having each mod ID separated by a comma. Do not place a comma after the last mod ID. Let's say you had a mod with ID 123456789 and another with 987654321. If using the text editor, you'd want to make the setting look like the following: ActiveMods=123456789,987654321. If using the configuration editor: 123456789,987654321.
Step 7: Head over to the main control page for your ARK server.
Step 8: Find and open the Old Workshop Mod Handler tool. This is available on the same page as the Start, Stop and Restart buttons.
Step 9: Enter the mod IDs that you wish to install separated by commas, just how you set it up in the GameUserSettings' ActiveMods setting. No comma after the last mod ID.
Step 10: Click run and wait for the Workshop Mod Handler to finish. Once it has completed you may start your server.

** NOTE 1 - If you are using a custom map and creating a new Commandline for your server; MAKE SURE THAT YOU SELECT THE COMMAND LINE. On the right side of the command line, you will see "Select". Click that and it will change to "Selected".

** NOTE 2 - If you are using a custom map and you've added the map mod ID and your server is not allowing the map to load, add these parameters to the map portion of your Commandline: /Game/Mods/MAPIDHERE/MAPNAME (Please ensure that for MAPIDHERE you are putting the mod ID and for MAPNAME you put the name of the map).

** NOTE 3 - Not all mods are supported for mod stacking (multiple mods). Mods may also be outdated upon release of new game updates which have caused major issues for server owners in the past (data loss, crashing). Also, note that technical support related to mods may be limited. Once mods are installed, we cannot be held liable for any issues which may be related to mod content, including data loss, service instability, and so forth. You are given every tool necessary to add and maintain mods.
