How to Install Scripts with Softaculous

Softaculous is a one-click application installer built into cPanel. It handles the file deployment, database creation, and initial configuration for hundreds of popular scripts including WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. To install WordPress specifically, Softaculous is the recommended method.

Installing a script

  1. Log in to cPanel and click the Softaculous Apps Installer icon. It is usually near the bottom of the page or under the Software section.
  2. Browse the script list on the homepage using the Scripts row for popular options, or browse Categories for a broader list. You can also use the search bar.
  3. Click the script you want to install.
  4. Click Install Now and fill in the installation details:
    • Choose Protocol: Select https:// if you have an SSL certificate installed.
    • Choose Domain: Select the domain or subdomain to install to.
    • In Directory: Leave blank to install at the root, or enter a subdirectory name.
    • Site Name / Description: Set your site's name.
    • Admin Account: Set your admin username and a strong password.
  5. Click Install at the bottom. Softaculous deploys the application and shows you the site URL and admin URL when complete.

Tip: Before installing, check that your PHP version meets the script's minimum requirements.

Managing installed scripts

You can update, backup, clone, or remove any Softaculous installation by returning to the Softaculous dashboard and clicking All Installations in the top navigation.

Troubleshooting

Installation fails at the database step: Softaculous creates the database automatically. If this step fails, check that your account has not reached the maximum number of MySQL databases allowed by your hosting plan.
