How to change your server's MOTD

The MOTD lives in the motd= line of your server's server.properties file. Color and style codes use the section sign (§), which most editors make awkward to type, so you write them here with an ampersand and the generator converts everything for you. A finished line looks like this:

motd=§b§lHost Havoc §8» §7Survival\n§aSeason 5 starts now!

Paste the generated server.properties output over the existing motd= line (the whole thing, including motd=), save the file and restart the server. On a Host Havoc server you can edit server.properties straight from the control panel's file manager — no FTP needed.

The § output is for control panels and proxies that accept the section sign directly (BungeeCord's config.yml, for example), and the & output is for Bukkit, Spigot and Paper plugins that translate ampersand codes. All three encode exactly the same message.
