How to Fix "Failed requesting mp token" Error

Sometimes, players who try to connect to a Vintage Story server may encounter this error:

Unable to connect to server. Failed requesting mp token from auth server.

This error can be caused by a wide variety of reasons, depending on the last sentence of the error message. This guide will list some of the known errors and steps to troubleshoot these.

Server says: nosession

Failed requesting mp token from auth server. Server says: no session

This error may indicate that the game is unable to identify your session. To fix this, try doing the steps below:

  1. Log out of your Vintage Story account.
  2. Relaunch the game.
  3. Log back into your Vintage Story account and try connecting to your server.

Server says: offline

Failed requesting mp token from auth server. Server says: offline

This error may indicate that Vintage Story's authentication server is unreachable so your server is unable to authenticate the players that try to connect to your server. To fix this, try doing the steps below:

  1. Log in to your Vintage Story game control panel.
  2. Stop your Vintage Story server.
  3. Click Configuration Files from the game panel menu.
  4. Open the serverconfig.json using the Config Editor.
  5. Look for the Verify Player Auth option and make sure this is unchecked.

    If you are using the Text Editor, make sure that VerifyPlayerAuth is set to false.
  6. Click Save & Exit to apply the changes.

Once you start your server, players should be able to connect to it once again.
