How to Upload a World Save to Your Valheim Server

Updated 10 June 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

You can run an existing singleplayer world on your Valheim server by uploading its save files. World saves consist of two files: a .fwl file and a .db file, both sharing the same name as the world.

Locate your local world files

On Windows, world saves are stored at:

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds

Identify the .fwl and .db files for the world you want to use, for example dedicated.fwl and dedicated.db.

Upload the save files

  1. Stop your server in the Game Control Panel.
  2. Use the File Manager or an FTP client to navigate to the worlds_local folder on the server. If the folder does not exist, create it.
  3. Upload both the .fwl and .db files into the worlds_local folder.
  4. In the control panel, click the Command Line Manager button.
  5. Click Select on the "Default" command line.
  6. Set the World Name field to match the name of your uploaded world files, without the extension. For example, if the files are dedicated.fwl and dedicated.db, set the world name to dedicated.
  7. Save and select the command line, then start the server.

The server will load your uploaded world on the next start. To roll back to a previous save later, see Restore Backup.
