How to Enable In-Game Console in Valheim

Valheim’s in-game console gives you access to commands that can help with testing, troubleshooting, customizing your world, or controlling mods/plugins.

Enable for Steam version

  1. Open the Steam application.
  2. Navigate to the Library tab and look for the Valheim game.
  3. Right-click on Valheim and select Properties.
  4. In the General tab, under the Launch Options section, paste -console in the text box. This will automatically save.
  5. Launch the game via Steam and press F5 to open the in-game console.

Enable for Xbox and Game Pass versions

  1. Navigate to the game install folder, by default C:\XboxGames\Valheim\Content\.
  2. Right-click valheim.exe and select Create Shortcut.
  3. Right-click the shortcut and click Properties.
  4. On the Shortcut tab, find the Target field and append -console to the end, leaving a space before the flag.
  5. Click OK to save.
  6. Launch the game using the shortcut. Press F5 to open the console.
