Thin gives the cleanest one-block outline and is the usual choice for decorative rings and tower walls. Thick guarantees every block touches the next one edge-to-edge, so use it when you need to walk along the top of the wall or want a chunkier look. Filled is for solid shapes: floors, lily pads, ponds and the base layer of domes.

Because every block is a square, a circle only reads as round once it spans enough blocks. Below a diameter of about 9 the shape is mostly corners; from around 15 it starts to look circular, and past 30 it looks genuinely smooth.

Yes, layer by layer. A dome or sphere is a stack of circles whose diameters shrink as you go up. Plot the sphere's side profile as a circle first, read each layer's width off that plan, then generate a circle for each layer and build them on top of each other.
