About Hytale: a voxel sandbox RPG, now in Early Access
Hytale is a block-based sandbox RPG from Hypixel Studios that entered Early Access on January 13, 2026 for Windows, macOS, and Linux. You explore procedurally generated zones, gather resources, build, raid dungeons, and fight monsters, alone or with friends. A dedicated server keeps that shared world running around the clock, so your group can log in and keep building without anyone leaving their own PC on as the host.
Server-side mods, nothing extra for players
Hytale mods and asset packs install on the server, not on each player's PC, so players joining a modded server usually need no separate client downloads. On Host Havoc you can add mods from the control panel's mod section or upload .jar and .zip files to the mods folder over FTP.
Config, admins, and backups from the panel
Set your server name, password, and world options in the config editor, and add admins from the web console instead of editing config.json by hand. Hytale only accepts players whose client version matches the server exactly, so keeping up with Early Access patches matters, and our 24/7 support team can help when a new build lands. Every server includes automated world backups, DDoS protection, and a choice of datacenter region.
How to Set Up a Hytale Dedicated Server

The easy way: with Host Havoc

Without Host Havoc
The manual way: self-hosting
Hytale's server is not distributed through Steam, so there is no SteamCMD or Steam App ID. The official dedicated server from Hypixel Studios is a Java 25 application (HytaleServer.jar) for Windows, Linux, or macOS on x64 or arm64. It needs at least 4 GB of RAM, and memory climbs with view distance and how far players spread out, so plan for 6 to 8 GB and 4 fast cores for a group. No GPU needed.
- Install Java 25, such as Adoptium Temurin.
- Download the server files (
HytaleServer.jarandAssets.zip) with the official Hytale Downloader CLI, which makes you sign in with your Hytale account. - Launch and authenticate. Start the server, then run
/auth login devicein the console and approve the code in your browser:java -XX:AOTCache=HytaleServer.aot -jar HytaleServer.jar --assets Assets.zip - Edit
config.jsonwith the server stopped. SetServerName,Password,MaxPlayers, andMaxViewRadius(default32, Hypixel recommends12). - Forward UDP
5520. Hytale runs on QUIC over UDP, so no TCP forwarding is needed. - Keep it running in screen/tmux on Linux or as a service on Windows, through the official start script so staged updates apply.
After that it is on you: patching on every Hypixel update (players cannot join a server on a different version), scheduling world backups, restarting after crashes, and absorbing DDoS yourself.
