Manually Update Your Minecraft Server

Published 9 June 2026 · By Host Havoc Technical Support Team

When a new Minecraft version is released, you can update your server by uploading the new server JAR and pointing Multicraft to it. Stop the server before making any changes.

Before you start: Back up your world files before updating. Updating to a newer version may change world generation and is not easily reversible.

Download the new server JAR

  1. Open https://mcversions.net/ in your browser.
  2. Find the version you want to run and download the server JAR for that version.

Upload the JAR via FTP

  1. Connect to your server via FTP.
  2. Upload the downloaded JAR file to the root directory of your server.

Select the JAR in Multicraft

  1. Log in to the Minecraft panel.
  2. Open your server settings and find the JAR File option.
  3. In the dropdown, remove Custom Jar if it is selected, then type the exact filename of the JAR you uploaded into the text field.
  4. Click Save and accept the EULA when prompted.
  5. Start your server.

Note: If you are updating to Minecraft 1.17 or newer, you must use a version-specific custom JAR to match the correct Java version. See our guide on uploading a custom JAR for details on renaming and selecting the right JAR option.
