About the Game
Space Engineers is a sandbox game that blends creativity, engineering, and survival into an immersive space and planetary experience. Set in a vast, procedurally generated universe, players can design, build, and manage everything from spacecraft and planetary bases to massive industrial complexes. The game's realistic physics-based mechanics challenge players to construct functional and efficient structures, taking into account gravity, resource management, and structural integrity.
Players can choose between Creative Mode, where unlimited resources allow for freeform construction and experimentation, and Survival Mode, which introduces limited resources, environmental dangers, and a need for strategic planning to stay alive. Beyond building, players can mine asteroids, pilot ships, explore distant planets, and even engage in battles against AI drones or other players in multiplayer mode.
With expansive open-world maps, Space Engineers offers endless possibilities for exploration and innovation. The game's community-driven modding ecosystem further expands its potential, adding new tools, vehicles, and gameplay mechanics. Whether you're a casual builder or an engineering enthusiast, Space Engineers provides an engaging platform to test your creativity and problem-solving skills in a futuristic, ever-evolving sandbox environment.

How to Set Up a Space Engineers Dedicated Server
With Host Havoc
The easy way: with Host Havoc
- Pick a plan and region. 15 to 64 slots, in the datacenter closest to your crew.
- Deploy in minutes. Your server launches on the latest build, ready to join.
- Manage from the panel. Set the world, password, and slots in a few clicks, and toggle Xbox + PlayStation + PC crossplay without editing a config file.
Automated world backups, one-click Steam Workshop and Mod.io installs, DDoS protection, and 24/7 support are included.
Without Host Havoc
The manual way: self-hosting
Space Engineers ships a free Windows-only dedicated server tool (DedicatedServer64). It is CPU-bound rather than RAM-hungry, because voxel physics and collision lean on single-thread speed, so plan for a few fast cores (3.0GHz+), 8 to 16 GB of RAM, and roughly 10 GB of disk. No GPU needed. Linux needs Wine.
- Install the Visual C++ 2017+ x64 redistributable on a Windows box that stays on 24/7.
- Download the server with SteamCMD using the anonymous login and Steam App ID
298740:steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 298740 validate +quit - Configure it. Launch
SpaceEngineersDedicated.exeand set your world, slot count, andSpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfgoptions. To let consoles in, enable crossplay (EOS), which limits you to Mod.io mods and three planets. - Forward UDP
27016on your router and firewall so players can connect. - Keep it running as a Windows service, and add Torch if you want live admin tools and plugins.
After that it is on you: patching on every Keen update, scheduling world-save backups, restarting after crashes, and absorbing DDoS yourself.
