About V Rising: open-world vampire survival from Stunlock Studios

V Rising puts you in the role of a newly awakened vampire in Vardoran. You hunt for blood, avoid sunlight, build and expand a castle, and work your way up to the V Blood bosses that unlock new powers. Stunlock Studios released version 1.0 on PC in May 2024, after an Early Access period that began in 2022. A dedicated server keeps your world, castles and clan progress online around the clock, and lets you set the rules instead of picking from public servers.

PvP or PvE, on your terms

Every V Rising server runs from two settings files: ServerHostSettings.json for the server name, password and player slots, and ServerGameSettings.json for the game mode and rules. Pick PvP or PvE, then tune resource yield, castle decay, clan size and more. Host Havoc gives you full access to both files through the control panel and FTP, with slot options from 10 to 100 players.

BepInEx mods and the PC (Steam) version

V Rising mods run on the BepInEx framework and are usually shared on Thunderstore. You can upload BepInEx and your plugins over FTP. Host Havoc servers are built for the PC (Steam) version of the game, kept current with the 1.1 update, and protected against DDoS attacks, with 24/7 support if something breaks.

How to Set Up a V Rising Dedicated Server

With Host Havoc

The easy way: with Host Havoc

  1. Pick a plan and region. 10 to 100 slots, in the datacenter closest to your clan.
  2. Deploy in minutes. Your server launches on the latest V Rising build.
  3. Manage from the panel. Choose PvP or PvE and set the server name, password, and player cap. No JSON files to edit.

Automated save backups, DDoS protection, and 24/7 support are included.

Rent Game Server

Without Host Havoc

The manual way: self-hosting

V Rising's official dedicated server from Stunlock Studios is a Windows-only tool; on Linux it only runs through Wine. It leans on single-thread CPU speed, and RAM grows with castles and uptime, so plan for 6 to 8 GB for 10 to 20 players and more for busy servers. No GPU needed.

  1. Download the server with SteamCMD using the anonymous login and Steam App ID 1829350:
    steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 1829350 validate +quit

  2. Create your settings files. Don't edit the defaults in VRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings, because updates overwrite them. Put your own ServerHostSettings.json (Name, Password, Port, QueryPort, MaxConnectedUsers, SaveName) and ServerGameSettings.json (GameModeType set to PvP or PvE) in the persistent data Settings folder.
  3. Forward UDP 9876 and 9877 (the default game and query ports, with the same numbers internal and external), and set ListOnSteam and ListOnEOS to true so the server shows in the list.
  4. Add admins by putting their Steam64 IDs in adminlist.txt, then run adminauth in the in-game console.
  5. Keep it running as a service on Windows, with a daily restart.

After that it is on you: patching on every update, backing up saves before each patch, restarting after crashes, and absorbing DDoS yourself.
